Painter and miniaturist Davis (Devi) Tuszynski studied under Erna Gutkind in his home town then in Lodz under professor Tadeusz Dobrowolski. During the Second World War, he saw action in the 1939 campaign in Kutno and Warsaw. After the war, he settled in Paris, continuing his studies at the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere and exhibiting in 1948. He painted portraits and miniatures on Jewish themes commemorating shtetl life and the Holocaust. His principal work, created over 20 years, comprises a cycle of over 120 illustrations to The Book of Psalms.
